317/317L Stainless Steel

Grade 317/317L, is primarily comprised of 18% to 20% chromium and 11% to 15% nickel along with trace amounts of carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon and balanced with iron. Features of 317/317L include increased strength, crevice and pitting corrosion resistance in acidic and phosphoric atmospheres, higher tensile strength and a higher stress-to-rupture ratio. With respect to cold working of 317317/L, stamping, shearing, drawing can be successfully performed. In addition, annealing can be performed between 1850 F and 2050 F, followed by rapid cooling. All common hot working methods are possible with 317, between 2100 F and 2300 F.
