Heat Treating

At Diversified Metal Products, our heat treating services are designed to optimize the mechanical properties of metals and alloys through controlled heating and cooling cycles. This essential process enhances material performance by modifying internal structures to achieve specific hardness, strength, ductility, and wear resistance characteristics.

Our heat treating capabilities serve a wide range of applications across industries such as petrochemical, aerospace, power generation, manufacturing, and heavy equipment fabrication. Whether you're looking to improve machinability, increase fatigue resistance, or meet stringent industry specifications, our processes are carefully controlled to ensure consistent and reliable results.

Key Benefits of Heat Treating:

  • Improves strength and hardness
  • Enhances wear and corrosion resistance
  • Relieves internal stress
  • Improves machinability
  • Increases material toughness and dimensional stability

Our Heat Treating Processes Include:

  • Annealing: Softens metal to improve machinability and ductility, while reducing internal stresses from prior forming or welding operations.
  • Normalizing: Refines grain structure and improves uniformity in microstructure and mechanical properties, especially for carbon and alloy steels.
  • Hardening: Increases hardness and strength through heating above the critical temperature followed by rapid cooling (quenching).
  • Tempering: Reduces brittleness and enhances toughness after hardening by reheating to a lower temperature and holding for a controlled period.
  • Solution Treating & Aging (for stainless steels and alloys): Enhances corrosion resistance and precipitation hardening properties for critical applications.

We use a variety of furnaces and controlled atmospheres depending on the material and the desired outcome. All heat treatment processes are performed to industry standards such as ASTM, ASME, or customer-specific specifications, and can be paired with post-treatment processes like stress relieving or straightening for optimal results.

From one-off prototypes to high-volume production, our expert technicians and quality control protocols ensure your components perform reliably under the most demanding conditions.
